Last year, I walked through a grove of olive trees in the late fall and discovered how the olives actually get from the trees to the ground. They're shaken down, with some strange, spinning agitator machine so they'll fall off the trees into nets that have been laid out on the ground below.
The Professor and I are now on the lookout for olive trees so we'll know where to go when the season hits -- if only to watch the workers shake the little, black Mediterranean treats out of the trees.
