OK! OK! The fruit adventure...

Well, I've got some more updates that ARE NOT about the book!

What I'll mention today is that the Prof and I have found a very interesting, but slightly dangerous hobby. (Not in the way that motorcycles are dangerous... but still.) We've been running again, and this time we've started collecting fruit along the route. At the moment, in the south of France, there are figs and blackberries (that don't quite look like ours) on bushes and trees all around the foothills of the Alps. Later, there will be lemons, mandarins (we only have three growing this year!) and olives. So, like a couple out for a run with their dog (only without the dog), we've taken to running with plastic bags in our pockets, hoping we don't get yelled at by anyone or accidentally eat something we shouldn't.

It's fun. This reminds me of when I was a kid and sometimes daringly ate crab apples from trees in the park or took a few sunflower seeds off a garden flower if I saw that it was ready to burst -- and if it happened to be leaning over a fence on my way to school.

The Prof and I aren't taking anything anyone wants to keep and we're not running through people's backyards or anything creepy like that, but we're keeping an eye out when we're out in nature. That's where another childhood lesson again makes sense: Nothing makes running fun like a silly, little game.

  1. Sounds like fun! Are you the only ones running with plastic bags in your pockets in your neighbourhood? :)

Weather should be cooling down in Nice now?

  2. Considering that the rules in some parts of France don't require plastic bags for any reason... we might just be the only ones :)
