Lovely Awkward: A Year of Wine, Romance and Life Among the French

On European soil... almost there.

After three movies and one dangerous incident where I somehow broke my seat in the form of an inversion table (feet up high, head down low; three people had to help me fix it), I have made my way across the ocean. Haven't slept. Just couldn't do it! Too excited.

Although I now realize that I'm going to crash very hard sometime in the first afternoon of this new life, again, I say what the hell. I only get to do this for the first time once.

The Professor, I hope, is already awake, having his coffee and colouring the last few letters of a sign with my name on it after having picked flowers and our ripest mandarine orange from the tree on the terrace... OK, I'm tired. REALLY tired. That joke wasn't going to be that funny and this ISN'T going to be that type of reunion. I'm still thinking about running and jumping into the Professor's arms when I see him, but I've been having a clumsy day and I'm sure my laptop bag would probably swing off my arm and knock us both over (if you're wondering where I hid the extra suitcase pounds... there they are).

This reunion isn't just a passionate whim like the last one.... This one is serious! We won't have a dress vote (as we did in the Star) and I won't be taking notes to file a story (at least, not right away). This will just be us... in an airport. No ceremony, no flowers (at least, I'm not expecting any), no deadline.

In only a few hours (after my final flight), I'll land in Nice.The... just the two of us, an abundance of luggage and the most delicious type of event: The beginning.

  2. Thanks! I wish the same for you, too!

I'm hoping to be able to write something every day... as long as there's something interesting to say. But, I still know so little about this place that there's a ton more to discover. The book will take in the rest, I hope...
