Leap to Canada?

Since I first leaped to France, the Prof. and I have spent a lot of time here, but we've also spent a lot of time in Canada. Every few months, we've gone back: We celebrated our wedding in Canada, went on a canoe trip in the Canadian wilderness, and we've returned several times for work.

Now, however, the Prof. has come up with a full-on Canadian plan.

We'll go back to Canada for a few months this summer, as we do every year. Then we'll come back to France until Christmas. And then... AND THEN!! ... he wants to make his own scary leap across the ocean to Canada.

CRAZY?!?! Yes!!!

I suppose I should have known my leap into French culture might end up as a trade. I had my adventure, and now the Prof. wants his. It makes sense.

I must admit, though, I'll be very reluctant to give up France if he falls in love with my country. If I see too much swooning over our maple trees, fresh-water lakes and the diversity of restaurants, I won't hesitate to bring out the blackflies, slush puddles and grizzly bear stories.

Luckily, our plan so far isn't to abandon one country for another. At the moment, we're keeping both. This way, we can both have foreign adventures, while both learning about each other's cultures.

Given that I have yet to make it through an August on the Côte d'Azur (where the tourists are plentiful and the sun is hot, hot, hot) and the Prof. has yet to experience a Canadian winter, I'm considering our current cross-leap arrangement a work in progress.

We'll figure the rest of the plan out next summer.

  1. I love your plan; I don't think the Prof is quite ready for a good ol' Canadian weather. He probably expects the pretty snowflakes and the winter wonderland bit. Ha! I laugh in his face. How about the bracing cold wind in your face? Take that!

    I'm getting carried away...

  2. Tanya: No, no. That's perfect. I NEED this kind of encouragement. I want to go back, but definitely not for good!

  3. The Canadian winter in Ontario will probably scare the Prof away...You have nothing to worry about! ;)

  4. Let me know if you come to Ottawa this summer. I'll be here :-)

If you want to make sure he will not stay in Canada, suggest visiting in the dead of January and February, and feed him Cheez Whiz. It should do the trick :-D
