Lovely Awkward: A Year of Wine, Romance and Life Among the French

Other people's tales of risk and romance

As I mentioned some time ago, it's been nice to have a little extra support from other people who've either made a leap like this, thought about it or are currently in the middle of one. Leaping is lonely. It makes you a bit crazy, makes you question yourself, and makes you take stock of a lot of odd things in your life, but it also eventually makes you stronger. At least, that's what I've found in my adjustment into French life here in Nice.

I'm much stronger now. And, in some ways, I've even been doing a few little Quantum Leaps (the TV show, not the science), using my new-found strength to "put right what once went wrong." (I did leap from one life into another one, after all.) In short, I've been standing up for myself so much here that I'm now ready to stand up for myself as a whole, in all respects. Not like a psycho, but like a normal person. I was a little too reluctant to do it before.

That said, I still have a huge soft spot for the many leap stories people have sent me. I started getting letters when my column first appeared in the Toronto Star newspaper and a few more arrive every so often by email. I haven't published them because I don't want to post anything that was just meant as a personal note, but I'm willing to share stories if anyone else is.

Trish King posted her story here.

Oneika posted her story of the first meeting here.

Anyone else?

(Even if posting isn't your thing, I appreciate the personal notes! (writekerrymacgregor(at)gmail.com) I hope some of you are finding some comfort in hearing about my lovely awkward moments.)
