From fireworks to a regular couple? Weird.
We made our way down to the Promenade des Anglais last night to watch the fireworks that celebrated Nice's decision, 150 years ago, to become apart of France. As a Canadian who almost always makes it to Parliament Hill to catch the fireworks, I was expecting to be unimpressed. But they were excellent! And, we got to watch them next to a little kid who was breakdancing along with the music that the city was blasting from speakers set up along the beach.
At one point, I crouched down to talk to the kid (who had come with us) to see if he understood that the fireworks were being shot out from the decks of boats that had been moored out on the Mediterranean Sea in front of us. He crouched down exactly like me and said a quick, "Yes!" before he continued with his dancing -- which, to be honest, was even more entertaining than the fireworks.
Beside us, members of the national police took photos of the colourful sky and the tourists shouted to each other in English. And... the Professor and I held hands like a regular, well-established couple. I can't believe how fast time moves sometimes... being in France, with him, away from my old life, has actually begun to feel normal!
