Embracing the winter before I go

This afternoon, I will make sandwiches for a cross-country ski trip that I'm going on with a friend. She's actually the same person who first introduced me to the Professor back in the summer. I sort of feel it's similar to when someone saves your life and then they have to keep saving your life forever... or however that odd story plot reads in Western movies. If I stay with this professor, this friend will always have played a big role in my future.

So... again we hike!

The Professor told me late last night -- and REALLY late for him -- that he was nervous about me getting through my visa interview. So, during the day, he went to the grocery store and walked around buying things: New towels and mops and household things for our new life together. My favourite story of the day.

It's very strange to have this application behind me. It's sometimes easy to focus on the obstacles in life. The things you're expecting to butt up against and might possibly use as an excuse. On the morning of my visa application, I could barely do anything. I was waiting. Worrying. Wondering. Which is completely unproductive.

But, it made me feel better. Probably in the same way that waiting in Ottawa for something to happen made me feel better before. Weird.

So, now that I'm again free of my affection for waiting (or at least my excuse), it's time to get to work. The agent is still excited about the book and I need to get him a pile of writing. Waiting isn't going to make that happen.

Off to type in another window!

  1. I'm always making excuses and putting things off. Maybe we do that because we're scared of actually going through the tougher obstacles, but it's always nice once you get over those little bumps in the road.

So when are you actually taking off for The Land of Love? (now that you've got that fancy visa of yours haha)

  3. I love it! The land of love! Maybe I'll re-watch the movie BEFORE SUNSET.

Maybe you should mail me a postcard from Nice.
