The Professor's identity

Part of my deal in doing this project with a complete stranger -- the Professor -- was that I would keep his identity secret. He made that request partly because he didn't know what information I would be willing to give up, but also partly because we didn't know how the story would turn out.

Since the beginning of the story, however, I've been sent quite a few emails asking for me to show a picture of him. It's still too much for him at the moment... but his niece had an interesting idea.

She thinks it's funny that her uncle is being portrayed as this romantic Frenchman (which I think he is... you have MY real take on him). But, his niece would like to hear yours. I met her this Christmas in the US.

So, here's the game: who should play the Professor in a movie if my book-in-progress ever makes it that far?

I figured that might be the easiest way to describe him, since bits of description (such as what I've given up so far) can be up for interpretation. Knowing how he's coming across, I hope, will HELP ME WRITE THE BOOK!

  1. The Professor's coming across as adventurous, funny, intelligent, outdoorsy, family oriented, level headed, romantic, caring and very respectful. He's probably handsome but not self absorbed and and most likely doesn't want things as much as he enjoys doing things. Don't even know him and I like him!! Can't wait to read the book.

  3. Hmmm, I would think of someone definitely older than Julien Boisselier...someone sophisticated and yes adventurous...

  4. It can't be an american (or even canadian) actor. None of them possess that european..."thing". Call it what you want...passion, intensity, emotionality. I can't think of a single one.

  5. They're actually almost the same age! But the Prof looks a bit more friendly... not sure how else to describe it.

You'd run away with that guy after knowing him only a week?

  7. This one looks prof-ish to me. What do you think? At least, he doesn't have a super serious, intimidating photo like some of the other French actors I've seen.

  8. Definitely like the idea of Pierre-Francoise :) But I've always had a soft spot for Vincent Cassel!

  9. Vincent Cassel is always a bad guy! But, maybe.

I know the names of far more English actors than I do French ones, unfortunately. I thought the turtle neck worn by the one I posted looked academic. But maybe I'm just thinking of our North American cliches.

  10. Oh, definitely not Vincent Cassel...I'd vote for Pierre-Francoise. I agree with the turtle neck, how about glasses?

Shall we try English actors as well (if not Americans or Canadians)?

  11. I know this actor is Spanish, but I think Javier Bardem would be great...
